As believers, we are called to be in the world but not of the world. We need to be spiritually prepared to engage the god of this world: Satan. It's a foolish person who goes into battle without the appropriate equipment. Ephesians 6 explains the importance of each piece.
1. Be ready to fight.
- Be alert. (1 Peter 5:8)
2. Be dressed to fight.
- Have your armor on. (Ephesians 6:10-17)
• Belt of Truth[fulness] - Dealing with everything according to the truth.
• Breastplate of Righteousness
- Sanctified, holy living that guards believers against the devil.
• Shoes of the Gospel of Peace
- Knowing Christ as Savior and having His peace, which is through the Good News of the Gospel, gives you stability in battle. (Philippians 1:21)
• Shield of Faith
- Simple trust in God. Reliance on God protects us from the temptation to question God’s promises, love, and sovereignty. Rely on Him no matter what.
• Helmet of Salvation
- Satan will tempt you to doubt your salvation to render you ineffective in the fight.
• Sword of the Spirit: The Word of God (Psalm 119:11)
- The Word of God is sufficient to handle any problem.
