Are you, as a Christian, placing your trust—are you taking refuge—in God alone?
At this time in David’s life, he was fleeing from Saul (1 Samuel 21:10-15).
David turned to God and placed his dependence solely on Him.
“Take refuge” is translated “trust” (Psalm 34: 8, 22) 35 of the 37 times used.
How can you identify a trusting Christian?
1. He is constantly praising the Lord. (Psalm 34:1-10)
- He continually talks and sings praises to the Lord. (Psalm 34:1)
- He continually boasts in the Lord which encourages others (Psalm 34:2).
- He magnifies the Lord and minimizes self (Psalm 34:3; John 33:3).
- He praises the Lord for answered prayer, security, and deliverance (Psalm 34:4, 6-7, 19; 2 Corinthians 12:9).
- He praises the Lord by the countenance on his face and the cheerfulness in his heart (Psalm 34:5, 8).
- He praises the Lord for always providing his needs (Psalm 34:9-10).
2. He is constantly proclaiming the Lord.
- He wants others to see the Lord’s goodness and fear Him (Psalm 34:11).
- He wants others to enjoy life like he does (Psalm 34:12).
- He wants others to keep their tongue under control (Psalm 34:13).
- He wants others to depart from evil and pursue good (Psalm 34:14).
- He wants others to know the secret to answered prayer and have a close relationship with God (Psalm 34:15-18).
- He wants others to know Who protects him (Psalm 34:20-21).
- He wants others to know how to be rescued from Hell (Psalm 34:22).
