Our History

The vision for Community Baptist Church was born in the heart of Pastor Mike Knight in 2005 as he served the Lord at Bible Baptist Church in Matthews, North Carolina. With a burden for the lost in rapidly-growing Johnston County, the Knight family moved to Clayton. With the help of regional churches and several couples CBC’s first service was held on April 9, 2006, at the Cleveland Middle School in Garner.

In the fall of 2006, God provided a 31-acre tract of undeveloped land on Cornwallis Road in Garner. Half of the land was donated, and the other half was paid in full by the new congregation in ten months. To God’s glory, the “land fund” was replaced with a “building fund.” While saving toward a permanent building, the Community Baptist congregation up-fitted an existing 7,200 square foot complex on Commerce Parkway in 2009 to serve as its temporary home.

During these growing years, CBC continued to follow its mission of proclaiming Christ so that others will know, love, and serve Him. Outreaches, such as special services, concerts, mission trips, and the yearly Family Fun Fest, allowed thousands to hear the message of the Gospel.

In December of 2016, the CBC congregation moved into their permanent building at 617 Cornwallis Road. While the church is a group of believers and not a physical building, we are grateful to God for His blessing and look forward to continuing His mission of making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20).
